Take Action

There are many ways that you can take action. You can email a state representative or senator in support of a bill. You can reach out to you school board to find out their AI policy and advocate for rules where none exist. You can attend local town meetings and advocate for municipal AI regulations. Remember that you are not alone in your concerns. Contact MAIRN so that we can follow your efforts and help you link with other concerned residents. Contacting MAIRN also lets us track local AI policy and assist in organizing efforts.

Contact Your State Legislators

MAIRN has a guide to bills regulating artificial intelligence where you can get a summary of each as well as their current status. If there’s a bill that resonates with you in particular, let your state representative or senator know. If you are generally concerned about artificial intelligence, you can let them know that too. You can find your state legislators here.

Contact Your School Board

Schools are an area where local residents can play a strong role in influencing AI policy. Contact your local school board or committee to find out what the district’s policy is on AI use. Advocate for strong limitations on generative AI use in curriculum and discussions of the harms and ethical issues of generative AI.

Contact Your Municipal Government

You can let your local town or city government know that you want firm boundaries on their use of generative AI to ensure that services are provided by human beings and that government decisions are not made by AI. You can convey your concerns at public meetings, or you can contact your town officials by email.
